I am part of an exciting international research team devoted to study many aspects of the avian salmonelloisis. Our research group has focused on understanding the basis of host-pathogen interaction between Salmonella spp. and birds. We have special interest in the immunobiology of avian salmonellosis. In order to explore these subjects, we have used molecular technologies approaching gene expression (qPCR and RNAseq) in both pathogen and host. In addition, modern mutagenesis methodologies have been adopted to generate bacterial mutants able to express different phenotypes which can give us good clues about the role of different proteins or compounds in the curse of infection. Basing on our results we expect to contribute for development of new vaccines or methods to help the poultry industry to control Salmonella infection in poultry flocks. Recently, we also start using genomic information for diagnosis and molecular epidemiological studies.
